From his unique vantage point—as a Korean pastor of a multi-ethnic church for more than two decades in Boston, the historic "cradle of the American Revolution"—Paul Kim sees an America that has clearly gone adrift.

"This isn't the America the Pilgrims founded in 1620 near Boston where I live," Kim said, citing the growing movement to legalize same-sex marriage and the drift from the nation's Christian origins. "This isn't the country our forefathers dreamed of. There's no question that our country has changed. Sin has so influenced our country. We need salvation from God."

Born in Korea, Kim came to the United States fifty years ago, became a US citizen, and eventually became a reserve chaplain for the ...

Connecticut pastor Bryan Sims understands the potential when Southern Baptists respond together. He has seen it firsthand since the December 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in nearby Newtown, Connecticut, through prayer, counseling services, and material help.

“It has been invaluable to receive support from Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and the BCNE [Baptist Convention of New England],” said Sims, pastor of Southbury Baptist Church in Southbury, Connecticut. “Though the Newtown tragedy is somewhat different than a natural disaster, the team adds a wealth of experience in ministering to a hurting community, particularly first responders. Also, our team meetings have generated helpful ideas of potential service to the area.”

Sims and other Southern Baptists in the region have come together to form a Newtown SBC response team to help the community recover. Local churches had already been strivin...

LifeWay Christian Resources

Heartbroken, Gilberto walked down a small village street in rural Chile with his toes busting out of his shoes. His brother had just died, and Gilberto wore the pain all over him.

Kathy Collins couldn't help but notice as she sat in the shade with others from her LifeWay Christian Resources mission team, escaping the noonday heat and munching on sack lunches. As Gilberto passed by, her heart melted at the sight of the despondent man. She chased after him and gave him the rest of her sandwich.

"He was so grateful," Collins said. "I wished I had shoes to give him."

Then Collins and another team member, Sergio Arce, shared the Gospel with Gilberto.

"When he received Christ, he was so emotional about it," said Collins, who serves as an editor-in-chief on LifeWay's children's ministry publishing team. "Tears were running down my face, too, because I realized that God was really providing for him in that moment...

Needs Multiplying, Resources Scarce

As the Serbian people face their first winter with a new democratically elected government, evangelicals are scrambling to minister to a nation left nearly bankrupt, according to a key evangelical ministry based in Belgrade.

Jasmina Tosic, co-director of Bread of Life, a ministry that has largely focused on refugee aid during the Balkan conflicts of the 1990s, laid out a plan to meet the physical and spiritual needs of more than 15,000 Serbian families this winter. The Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund is among Bread of Life's sources of support.

But, Tosic wrote in the ministry's newsletter, Bread of Life has received only a few offers of outside help for the plan.

"We are putting our trust in God and find ourselves continuing as written in Haggai 'giving careful thought' about our past and future," Tosic, a member of First Baptist Church, Belgrade, wrote.

The organization's winter ministry plan includes:
